LEVEL 3 SAFEGUARDING SUPPORT OFFICER

The Level 3 Safeguarding Support Officer apprenticeship is designed for staff who support safeguarding practice within their organisation. This may include professionals working in education, health, social care, housing, community services, or any environment where protecting children, young people, or adults at risk is a key responsibility.

The programme develops the knowledge, skills, and behaviours needed to recognise, triage, and respond effectively to safeguarding concerns. Learners will gain the confidence to support colleagues, follow referral pathways, and contribute to safeguarding processes that protect individuals' health, wellbeing, and human rights.

This apprenticeship combines essential safeguarding knowledge with practical workplace application, providing learners with the skills and confidence needed to support effective safeguarding practice within their organisation.

The programme is ideal for professionals working in roles such as:

• Safeguarding Support Officers or Coordinators
• Pastoral and Welfare Staff
• Family Support or Community Practitioners
• Staff supporting Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) across any sector

Throughout the apprenticeship, learners will develop the knowledge and practical skills required to identify concerns, support safeguarding processes, and contribute to creating safe and inclusive environments.

• Identifying, assessing, and responding to safeguarding concerns
• Understanding safeguarding legislation, policies, and organisational procedures
• Prioritising and managing safeguarding cases effectively
• Supporting referrals and multi-agency working with relevant professionals
• Recording, storing, and sharing safeguarding information securely and appropriately
• Promoting person-centred and inclusive safeguarding approaches
• Contributing to safeguarding audits, reports, reviews, and continuous improvement activities
• Reflecting on practice and developing strategies to strengthen safeguarding processes

On completion of this apprenticeship, learners will have the skills, knowledge, and confidence to play an active role in supporting safeguarding arrangements and improving outcomes for children, young people, and vulnerable individuals.
