Level 3 Early years educator Wrap-Around Care

Find out more

Early years educator - Wrap-Around Care

Apprenticeship information

The apprenticeship is typically completed over 21 months, including the End Point Assessment (EPA), for learners who are employed for 30 hours or more per week. If a learner works fewer hours, the programme duration will be extended in line with apprenticeship funding rules.

Each learner will be allocated a dedicated tutor who will provide ongoing support, guidance and feedback throughout their apprenticeship. The tutor will support the learner’s development, monitor progress and help them build the knowledge, skills and behaviours required for their role within wrap-around care.

Wrap-Around Care Role Requirements

To successfully complete the apprenticeship within a wrap-around care environment, learners must demonstrate knowledge, understanding and practical application of key areas of the Early Years Educator Standard, including:

  • Observation and assessment
  • The key person approach
  • Supporting children’s health and wellbeing
  • Working in partnership with parents and carers
  • Multi-agency working
  • Implementing change and continuous improvement
  • Continuing professional development (CPD)
  • Safeguarding
  • Equality, diversity and inclusion
  • Health and safety and risk management
  • GDPR and confidentiality
  • The importance of play
  • The Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage

Learners must also gain experience supporting children with personal care routines, such as encouraging effective handwashing before snack times, supporting independence and assisting with toileting where appropriate.

The apprenticeship standard requires learners to understand development across the full early years age range. Learners should ideally have experience working with babies aged 0–2 years. If a wrap-around care setting does not provide access to babies, learners can still meet the knowledge requirements through taught sessions covering the full 0–8 age range.

Duration

This Apprenticeship lasts 21 months. Start dates throughout the year

EPA

  • Assessment method 1: Knowledge Test
  • Assessment method 2: Professional Discussion underpinned by the Portfolio
